Position Overview:
The Plant Manager is responsible for the fulfillment of orders. This includes oversight of Shipping & Receiving, Scheduling, Purchasing, and Production Control departments. This role aims to push monthly revenue while maintaining the appropriate relationship to both material and direct labor spending. In addition, On-Time delivery will be another key target for this position. This role demands a keen understanding of the business’s operations, processes, and personnel and how they work together as a cohesive unit.
Responsibilities:
- Production Planning and Scheduling: Manage day-to-day operations including production scheduling, capacity planning, and resource allocation to meet customer demands and production targets. The scheduler will report to this position directly.
- Cost Management: Optimize production processes to minimize waste, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency. Daily oversight of shipped jobs and ongoing jobs should be analyzed to determine efficiencies.
- Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of production supervisors and operators to foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and safety.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control processes to optimize stock levels and ensure materials availability for production needs. This includes also the layout and usage of the facility for optimal inventory storage. This can be done by coordinating with the Shipping and Receiving Manager who will be a direct report to this position.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, streamline processes, and implement best practices in sheet metal fabrication.
- Personnel: Advise HR and COO on which positions are currently needed and coordinate on the hiring process. If departments have too much capacity, it should be the recommendation to reduce hours or down-size staff as it relates to the work available to the shop at any given time.
- Daily Report Card Reviews: Provide shop employees with their daily report card, and have meetings accordingly with those whose performance is not up to par. These employee meetings will be daily for those lagging behind and PIPs will be issued to repeat offenders and followed up on.
- Performance Reviews: We will have yearly performance reviews for all employees in the shop and the office. The Plant Manager is responsible for reviewing KPIs with Shipping & Receiving, Purchasing, Scheduling and Production Control. They should also coordinate with these managers to make sure all of their subordinates have performance reviews based on their KPIs. If there are raises, demotions, PIPs, or firing that is required, the Plant Manager will submit this to HR with the recommended decisions.
- Documentation: Ensure accurate records of production output are maintained in our ERP Fulcrum Pro. Document output, scrap, machine settings, access prints and programs, add locations, issue BOM items and any issues encountered during the manufacturing process. Provide feedback to Estimators, Engineers and COO for process improvement.
- Facilities Management: Ensure that the working environment is safe, clean and organized. Attention to detail is crucial and coordinating with Handymen or Facilities Managers to ensure that the these standards are upheld at all times.
- Upholds a structured chain of command, maintains a positive and friendly attitude, willingly assists when required, organizes tasks for optimal workflow, minimizes workspace clutter, collaborates across departments for operational efficiency, and adheres to critical ISO procedures pertinent to the role.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving production processes, tooling designs, and operational efficiency.
- Availability to train other team members as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.
- Proven experience in a managerial role within heavy manufacturing, demonstrating a track record of operational leadership and achieving production targets.
- Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software (e.g., ERP systems).
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to manufacturing operations.
- Advanced understanding of engineering drawings, blueprints, and geometric tolerances.
- Advanced knowledge of metal materials and their behavior during manufacturing processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks and meet production deadlines.
- Adherence to safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
